John Baron Burg was born in Washington, D.C., on May 31, 1878. He attended Georgetown University and began his legal career in 1898. He came to Albuquerque in 1906 and was admitted to the Bar of the Second Judicial District Court on April 6, 1909. Burg served as probate judge of Bernalillo County and in the first state legislature of New Mexico. In 1936 he was elected district attorney of the Seventh Judicial District.
